Learning Through Experience with 3G Dave Reckess

10:00AM - 11:00AM

Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at RVCC 118 Lamington Road
Branchburg, NJ

Learning Through Experience on Zoom with 3G David Reckess, 3GNY Executive Director, shares his Bubi Sarah’s story of surviving the Holocaust, his journey to embracing his 3G identity, and the importance of telling her story in the classroom and to the broader community.

Dave Reckess, the grandson of four Holocaust survivors from Poland and Russia, is the Executive Director of 3GNY. Dave is honored to lead 3GNY, support 3Gs in learning to tell their family stories through 3GNY’s WEDU program and help others find meaning and connection as descendants of Holocaust survivors.

Dave will share the story of his maternal grandmother, Bubi Sarah. Sarah Tuller was 16 when Nazis invaded her hometown of Lublin, Poland, in 1939 and forced her into the Lublin Ghetto. After escaping from the Majdanek Concentration Camp, she survived along with her parents by hiding in the small apartment of a Polish Catholic family for over three years.

Dave recalls his Bubi Sarah as a spunky, spirited storyteller who loved dancing, playing cards, and being around others. Her dynamic personality endeared her to everyone she met, earning her the nickname “Everybody’s Bubi.”
